Content marketing manager at Brew Digital · Associate director at Voice Magazine

I help brands and emerging voices tell stories that actually connect, without the jargon and without the gatekeeping.

I’m a British journalist, digital media maker, and communications strategist. Raised in East Anglia, I got my start in civic advocacy as chair of the Bury St Edmunds Youth Council before earning a First-Class degree in Politics and an NCTJ-accredited master’s in Journalism at Brunel University London.

Over the last fifteen years, I co-founded Voice Magazine and helped grow it into an accredited national publication with over 2.5 million reads, directed community arts festivals in rural Norfolk, and mentored over 150 young writers and creatives. Today, I lead content marketing full-time at Brew Digital, working with clients to authentically tell their stories, and host our podcast, Marketers of the Universe.

“A society that reflects everyone, benefits everyone. Access to cultural participation is a fundamental civic right, not a privileged indulgence.”

Breaking down the walls

My politics degree evaluated how technology could increase voter turnout; my NCTJ training grounded me in media law and verification. But it was co-founding Voice Magazine that truly shaped how I view the world. Working alongside hundreds of emerging writers from every walk of life showed me that insight and creative appetite are universal: what’s missing is access.

When you give people genuine permission and the practical tools to participate, it doesn't just produce good work; it transforms their confidence, their careers, and their sense of agency.

Jargon is gatekeeping in disguise

The biggest barrier to that participation is language. Whether it’s insular art criticism, impenetrable political commentary, or corporate marketing buzzwords, overly complex vocabularies are designed to protect institutional gatekeepers. They signal to everyday people: this isn't for you.

Ditching the jargon and speaking in clear, unpretentious English isn’t about dumbing ideas down. It’s an act of hospitality. It demystifies closed worlds and invites people into the room.

Democratising tools without repeating old mistakes

Technology ought to widen that doorway. Used thoughtfully, emerging tools, from early digital publishing platforms to practical generative AI, can lower the barrier to entry for creative work, helping smaller teams, independent makers, and non-traditional voices punch well above their weight.

But access without responsibility is reckless. If we treat new technologies as pure corporate hype or algorithmic shortcuts, we risk supercharging the exact same harms, echo chambers, and systemic exclusion that social media inflicted on public discourse. True democratisation means using modern tools to open doors for real human expression, not replacing it.

Content, SEO & commentary

Commercial strategy & editorial craft

At Brew Digital, I bridge technical search strategy with editorial craft. Working alongside our SEO team, I collaborate with clients to build comprehensive content packages, pairing informative, search-driven resources with authoritative thought leadership and distinct editorial commentary. By exploring wider industry angles rather than chasing generic keywords, I help brands establish genuine expertise, earn visibility across Google and AI search overviews, and build lasting reader trust through clear, unpretentious writing.

  • Op-eds & industry thought leadership
  • Full-funnel search & conversion content
  • Editorial newsletters & subscriber content
  • Content audits, rewrites & refreshes

Podcasting & audio production

Interviews, narrative & strategy

I’ve been podcasting continuously since 2011, later bringing my independent audio projects under the Tinman Podcasts banner. Over that time, I’ve hosted candid, long-form interviews with broadcasters, creators, and authors including broadcaster Iain Lee, Lewis Brindley (The Yogscast), and author/musician Joe Craig. With Upstart Projects and nine Arts Council England Bridge organisations, I produced the Amplify documentary series and oversaw video production, collaborating with videographers and regional partners to shape the narrative, production, and campaign rollout. Today, I produce and host Marketers of the Universe for Brew Digital, translating complex agency debates and digital marketing trends into practical, conversational audio.

  • End-to-end audio production & editing
  • Long-form conversational interviewing
  • Jargon-free industry explainers
  • Narrative documentary series & multimedia toolkits

Youth voice, festivals & creative training

Festival coverage, workshops & institutional consultancy

Building a creative career outside London taught me how quickly geographic and social barriers shut people out. At Voice Magazine, I coordinated our annual Edinburgh Festival Fringe coverage (arranging 150+ artist interviews and managing transport, accommodation, ticketing, and daily editing for six young reviewers covering 150+ shows in a single week) and led our work as official Youth Media Partner of Brighton Fringe, including recruiting local reviewers and overseeing adjudication of the Brighton Fringe Newcomer Award. Alongside managing the DWP Kickstart programme for 24 young people and directing rural festivals like DissFest, I have consulted with major institutions (Tate Modern, Southbank Centre, Royal Opera House Bridge) on youth governance and delivered practical media and AI workshops at events like Mozilla Festival.

  • Edinburgh & Brighton Fringe press teams & award adjudication
  • Media literacy, journalism & audio workshops (including MozFest)
  • Youth governance & board facilitation
  • Mentorship frameworks & Kickstart employment schemes

Rapid prototyping & practical AI

Testing ideas before committing developer resource

I’m not a software developer, and I don’t treat artificial intelligence as corporate hype. Instead, I use modern AI and rapid prototyping tools to test whether an idea genuinely solves a problem for our team or clients before committing expensive engineering resources. I take concepts from initial sketch to functioning internal tools in days, proving the hypothesis, cutting out operational grunt work, and validating whether a solution is ready for full-scale development. At Brew Digital, my hackday prototypes have won awards for execution, innovation, and relevance against teams of technical specialists, with last year’s prototype winning leadership buy-in to be developed into a full commercial product.

  • Rapid concept testing & functional prototypes
  • Workflow validation before developer handoff
  • Internal productivity & editorial tooling
  • Practical agency AI policies & prompt frameworks

As a facilitator, I designed and delivered tailored training and workshop programmes to people of all ages and abilities. Alongside workshops, I directly mentored 50+ Voice contributors and managed our six-month DWP Kickstart employment programme for 24 young people facing long-term unemployment. Over half of the cohort progressed directly into further employment, while others pursued further education or training, with programme and contributor alumni going on to roles at Sky Sports, in the AI sector, and in senior communications leadership within a UK central government department.
